This stone was an impulse buy. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it. Sometimes I buy a stone and know that someday it will make its way into a piece when the time is right and the stone is ready to share what it should become. But this stone did not get to mingle with the others for very long. It is a piece of rough apatite that had the bottom sanded flat. A rough stone is one that hasn’t been shaped and polished like most stones people are used to wearing. This stone almost looks like a broken piece of antique glass, but the color is just fabulous. I knew just what it should be when it arrived in the mail. I sat down with a sharpie and a scrap piece of paper and drew a quick sketch and then got to work. Here is a quick picture I took of the sketch with my phone. It is always a little funny to see the hastily drawn sketch compared to the final piece. But in this case I had a clear vision in my head and didn’t need too much detail to remember what I was going for.
