Why I Make Jewelry: Etsy Metal Blog Carnival

Welcome to our EtsyMetal monthly Blog Carnival!

Blog Carnival is about a group of our members sharing their experience on a common topic.

THIS MONTH’S TOPIC: “WHY DO YOU MAKE JEWELRY?”

I am discovering that the detailed answer to this question is always changing, but the generic answer has always been the same, because I like it. I genuinely enjoy the process, every step of the way.

Each day I get to work on my craft brings new challenges and rewards. I love a good challenge and being self taught I have had to draw on many different sources to get the knowledge I needed to see the pieces in my head come out as a finished product. I love seeing the metal transform from raw material to a finished, functional piece.

After launching my running line of jewelry I began hearing stories from customers of why they purchased the piece and to be a small part of celebrating that accomplishment has been so much fun.

Something that has recently become a reason why I make jewelry is as a means to support myself. Previous to getting laid off of a job that I had worked in for 6 years I got to create as a means to make some extra money and have fun. I still get to have fun, but I will admit there is an added pressure when it became my sole source of income. There were a few weeks of complete freak out and my creative mojo was in the toilet, but once I gathered myself I realized it is still the same thing I loved doing before, I just get more time to work on it now! There were times in my old job where it felt like the hours were moving like molasses and now I can get into the studio and while I am working the hours seem to fly by.

I love making jewelry, and that is why I do it.
