THaW #2 – Etched Copper Faux Wood Earrings

I finally took the plunge and tried etching some copper. These two came out really well. I got to use my new disc cutter too! Bonus! The pattern on this was drawn with an office store paint pen. I then put it in an acid solution to etch out the areas not covered with the paint. Once it was finished I used Liver of Sulphur (Smells like stinky eggs, Sorry dear boyfriend!) to give it the patina. I also hand made the ear wires from 20g sterling silver wire. Etching was so much fun. It is crazy to see the […]more

I love the snow!

Snowy Bench Taken with my Phone Camera It took a long time for the snow to come this year. Infact, our first real snow storm didn't even come until Thanksgiving. I know it seems weird that I am so excited for snow, but if it is going to be this cold, I want some snow dang it!  We are supposed to get a new storm this weekend. It has been bitter cold this week and as the sky turns grey and the first tiny flakes begin to fall, I look forward to snuggling in a blanket on my couch with […]more

Ring a Week for a Year Challenge

Ring a Week #1Sometimes, I just need a little kick in the pants to get me going. So this is why I have commited myself to participating in the RAW Challenge. What is RAW or Ring a Week? Well, This is a group of very tallented artists that have challenged themselves to create a different ring each week for the entire year. Last year a group did a ring a day, which was waaay to intimidating for me, but one each week, I think I can do. The rules are simple, each new week, one new ring. The ring can […]more

Ring A Week #2

Ring A Week #2I know, I know… It is week three. I didn't get it photographed until today, but I did make it last week. This week I am going to get back on track, so expect RAW#3 in a few days. I was pretty busy last week, and haven't ever actually made stacking rings until now, so here is my first go at it. I love the rings together… Why did I not make them my size! If you want to check out what other tallented artists are making for RAW go to the flickr group here.

Thing a Week for the Year Challenge

THAW#1 – I Heart Coffee! So, I have told you about RAW (ring a week for the year) now, here is THAW or Thing a week for an entire year. THAW is really the same idea as RAW but you can make any kind of piece that you want. It is just all about creating something and giving yourself just that little bit more motivation to get things done. This little coffee cup is what I have completed for THAW #1. I am a little behind in posting, so you will see THAW #2 later this weekend. Next week I will […]more

Welcoming 2011

Photo by Jessica LopourI am really excited for this year. I have always considered 11 to be my lucky number. My birthday is 11/11 and so is my boyfriends! It has to mean something right? Well, I am going to be optimistic and assume that this will be a good year for myself and my little business. I am not a big fan of new years resolutions, how many are forgotten within the first few months? But a new year does give the opportunity to start anew. To adjust our habits and routines and set new goals and revisit the […]more

Monthly Team Blog Topic – What Technique Do You Want To Learn Next?

Aspiring Metalsmiths Team Blog Topic – December What Technique do you want to learn next? Each month the Aspiring Metalsmiths Team on Etsy chooses a topic and each member responds to the topic on their own blog. Last month the topic was "Show us your Workspace" Check it out if you get a chance. This month's topic is something that came really easy for me. Because I am so new at this, there are a LOT of techniques that I would like to learn and sometimes am overwhelmed with how much it is that I do not know. I have […]more
